We know that maybe the word, “church,” may not spark a lot of good Disney-like feelings in you. Hey, you may even consider church irrelevant, boring, hypocritical and even segregated. Believe it or not, we agree with you!

Newsong is far from a perfect church. Our common ground is our weakness. Yet, in spite of our weaknesses we’ve discovered the liberating favor of Jesus who says His grace is made perfect in our weakness.

So what is Newsong like?
 We’re serious about embracing this ideal of reconciliation as it deals with God and humankind. We’re also passionate about addressing the local and global concerns of justice, advocacy and the poor. We feel it is our responsibility to help lead a renaissance of community transformation among the under resourced. Moreover, the arts and beauty are important to us. Diversity is not just about being politically correct. To us it’s about reflecting the very heart of God.

While you may not be ready to get involved right away, there are a variety of exciting possibilities at Newsong for you to meet people just like yourself. Our culture is not about strong-arming you into a connection with God but about honest conversations concerning our relationship with God, our community with one another, and our responsibility to humbly serve the misfits of our world.

OUR VISION:

To zealously love God and the misfits even in the midst of pain and discomfort

DESTINY: We all have a unique destiny– no one else has your
voice, your place in the world, your relationship with God– and
Newsong helps you in your journey of discovery by crafting a
customized plan for your personal and spiritual development.

MISSON ZERO: Unleashing God’s beauty in the world means bringing
light to dark places, reaching out to misfits, orphans, widows, the
poor, the abused, and others who are marginalized. Eliminating social
injustices is our Mission Zero.

TRIBES: Newsong believes that missional life is best lived out
when we see each other as family– loving, learning, and serving
together in the context of healthy, committed relationships. We’ll
develop and resource you along the way.

OUR PHILOSOPHY:

Contrary to popular Christian belief, people with talent and ability do not exist for the church; they exist for the city. And, for that matter, the church also exists for the city.

We are excited to have so many artists in our community.

Rather than saying ‘he’d be a great musician/artist/businessman to have in our church’  we look at the person and imagine how we can come along side him to help form his soul so that he will think about music/business/art through a Kingdom lense, and he may begin to restructure how he creates, readjust what he does with his music or his profits… all types of things that would make his art and work a city on a hill.

As we hi-light our artists it is not about promoting our ‘Saturday or Sunday thing’.  Yes, the Kingdom shows up on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings at Phrom Phong but it’s supposed to be breaking in all over the city through unleashed disciples – leaders, entrepreneurs, teachers, construction workers, stragglers and refugees – who are sold out for Jesus. By sending us into the city Jesus is actually calling us back into the Gospel so that He will be the one who builds and we get to display it and announce it.

All of our gatherings are very laid back so please come as you are.

 

UNDERGROUND

UNDERGROUND: An intense community spirit, the feeling of great social equality, solidarity, and togetherness. 

Newsong believes that missional life is best lived out when we see each other as family– loving, learning, and serving together in the context of healthy, committed relationships.

UNDERGROUND communities are simply groups of people who choose to do life together with intentionality and on purpose.

The purpose of these proximity based groups is to be regularly serving and loving our neighbors, caring for one another, and promoting justice in ways that clearly show the love and character of Jesus.

An UNDERGROUND is a core community who commits to:

UNDERGROUND | Thong Lo

We gather each Wednesday at 6:30 and we always begin with a meal.

UNDERGROUND | 50

Thursdays: join as we serve the community during the day, working together on various missional activities or just getting out to meet the people in our neighborhood. It may be teaching English under the expressway or ordering noodles and chatting with the stall owners.
